PURPOSE: A rechargeable lithium battery is provided to reduce the manufacturing cost by manufacturing a battery having a large capacitance using a case formed with a pouch. CONSTITUTION: A rechargeable lithium battery comprises an electrode assembly(20) consisting of an anode plate, a cathode plate and a separator which are stacked on another. A case(30) is provided to seal the electrode assembly(20). The electrode assembly(20) is connected to a terminal which is exposed to an outer portion of the case(30). The case(30) includes a front wall(31) having the first pouch(31a) and a rear wall(33) having the second pouch(33a). The rear wall(33) is coupled to the front wall(31). The first and second pouches(31a,33a) have predetermined depths so as to accommodate the electrode assembly(20) therein. The bottom area of the first pouch(31a) is different from the bottom area of the second pouch(33a).
