PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain the subject film excellent in slipperiness, having low turbidity and excellent clearness, and useful as a protective film for polarizing plates for liquid crystals, by including a specific film containing minute particles and another specific film substantially free from the minute particles. SOLUTION: This film is obtained by including a cellulose ester film containing minute particles and another cellulose ester film substantially free from the minute particles; wherein the minute particles are preferably silicon atom-containing ones with an average particle diameter of primary particles of <=20 nm and apparent specific gravity of >=70 g/L, (e.g. silicon dioxide). The cellulose ester is preferably a lower fatty acid ester of cellulose (e.g. cellulose triacetate). This film is obtained by subjecting (A) a dope containing the minute particles and (B) another dope not containing the minute particles to co-casting operation so that the dope A comes in contact with a substrate for casting.
