PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To reduce the elastic body degradation of a fixing body and to perform image formation with excellent low temperature fixation by making a first prescribed temperature in a temperature control means equal to or higher than a second pre scribed temperature. SOLUTION: For this fixing device 10, the temperature of a fixing roller 10a is detected by a thermister 39 which is a temperature detection means abutted to the fixing roller 10a, halogen heaters 37 and 38 are controlled by a controller 40 which is the temperature control means based on the detection temperature and the temperature of the fixing roller 10a is controlled so as to be fixedly maintained. That is, during a standby operation (at the time of fixation standby), the fixing roller 10a is controlled to 190 deg.C for instance. Then, at the time of detecting the signals of copy operation start, the rotation of the fixing roller 10a and a pressing roller 10b is started. Then a copy sheet number is judged, and when the copy sheet number is one, t-he control temperature is kept at 190 deg.C for the fixing roller 10a and a copy operation is ended. In the case that the copy sheet number is two or more, the control temperature of the fixing roller 10a is changed from 190 deg.C to 180 deg.C after the copy operation of a first sheet is ended.
