PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To avoid the degradation of the quality of reactor water and extend the life of a pleated filter by taking out the filter from a filter container, washing it outside the container with chemicals and also rinsing it with water. SOLUTION: A pleated element 30 taken out from a container is moved to an element receiving tank 1, and washing chemicals put in a chemicals conditioning tank 2 is diluted with make-up water. Then, a chemicals pouring pump 3 is actuated by opening a valve 3 to supply the washing chemicals to the element receiving tank 1 and wash the pleated element 30 with the chemicals. Subsequently, the washing chemicals existing in a circulation route between the chemicals conditioning tank 2 and the element receiving tank 1 are neutralized by pouring neutralizing chemicals from a neutralizing chemicals tank 4 into the chemicals conditioning tank 2 and are discharged from drain valves 17 and 19. After the discharge of them, the residual washing chemicals in the pleated element 30 are washed with make-up water, the supply of water is stopped when the concentration of the residual washing chemicals falls short of a prescribed value and the pleated element 30 is taken out to be washed in water by a filter filled with water. Consequently, the pleated element 30 where water has passed for a year can be reused.
