PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an acrylate compound useful as an adhesive component for liquid crystal layers, and to provide a liquid crystal element which uses the acrylate compound, is light and thin, is not liable to be broken, and has excellent mechanical strengths and good visibility. SOLUTION: This acrylate compound is expressed by the general formula (1) (R1 and R2 are each H, an acyl, an alkylsilyl or dimethylsiloxy, except a case that R1 and R2 are together H). The adhesive comprises the acrylate compound, and a polymerization initiator or the polymerization initiator and a polymerization inhibitor. And, a liquid crystal element is obtained by nipping the layer of a composition containing the adhesive and a liquid crystal substance between a pair of substrates having transparent conductive films, respectively.
