PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To execute reading, recording and rewriting without electrical contact with an IC chip, to obtain a stable printing result by controlling an image recording apparatus properly on the basis of a large quantity of recorded information and, besides, to record and utilize the information on the residual amount of ribbon and others which varies momently. SOLUTION: A semiconductor chip, i.e., an IC chip 32 having a coil and a semiconductor integrated circuit in one piece, which can record the information on the characteristics of a thermal transfer ribbon, the information on the residual amount of the ribbon, etc., is incorporated in a ribbon cassette 30 wherein the ribbon is set. The information recorded herein is used by an antenna and circuit part 34 for power supply and data collection by means of electromagnetic induction or a radio wave.
