PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a disk array controller which does not handle as an error the error in a work area of a disk drive as much as possible and continues to use the disk drive without disconnecting it by allocating an alternative area. SOLUTION: This disk array controller 1 connects the disk drives 5 in parallel and records data in stripes to the disk drives 5 and on each disk drive 5, a data area 7 where the data are recorded and a work area 8 (9) used for disk array control processing are secured.
