PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a display device having low electric power consumption and to provide a control method for the device. SOLUTION: A display section 103 of a display device 101 includes plural regions which are not overlapped with each other. Each one of these regions is able to select any one of plural display states. A storage section 109 stores a display state to be selected by each of the regions. A receiving section 107 receives command data which specify the display state to be selected by each region. An interpretation section 102 interprets the command data and the display state to be selected in each region is stored in the section 109. When the display states stored in the section 109 agree with prescribed display states, a power supply control section 104 stops supply of electric power to the section 103. If not, the power is supplied. A display control section 102 conducts a control so that the regions of the section 103 select the corresponding display states stored in the section 109.
