A compression device places fuel remaining in the gap under pressure corresponding to the closing movement of the core to displace the fuel to a region forming a fuel passage. The fuel injection valve has an electromagnetic solenoid in a valve body, an axially movable core (4) inside the solenoid, a valve needle (5), a fixed area (8) approached by the core when the needle moves in the closing direction to form a gap (S1) between the fixed area and movable core when the valve closes and a compression device. The compression device places fuel remaining in the gap under pressure corresponding to the movement of the core towards the closing side to displace the fuel to a region forming a fuel passage for fuel ejected through the gap.
