The tourniquet (10) consists of an annular inflatable chamber of an elastic material, toroid in shape and contained in a rigid housing (22, 24) with axial apertures (26, 28) on either side of the chamber's central aperture (20) and a peripheral wall (46) in contact with chamber's outer peripheral surface (48) to limit its radial expansion. The inflatable chamber also has a radial extension (14) with a pneumatic coupling and non-return valve (30), and the housing has a similar extension to cover it.
