The method for storing green fodder (2) in a horizontal stack which may have side walls comprises initial compressing in a conditioning and pressing device (1). It is then pressed into a mold (10), the pressure depending on the counter-pressure from the material already in the stack. When a layer is complete, the conditioning and pressing device is moved to begin building a new layer. An Independent claim is included for a device for carrying out the above process.
