METHOD FOR MANUFACTURING CYLINDRICAL QUARTZ GLASS PARTS AND APPARATUS FOR IMPLEMENTING THE METHOD

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To improve the surface quality of cylindrical parts or rods to be manufactured by heating quartz glass gobs up to a softening temperature and drawing the heated gobs out of an outlet. SOLUTION: In the method for manufacturing the cylindrical part (2) from the quartz glass gob (3), the cylindrical part which is heated in a heating device (4) and appears from the outlet (5) is guided by a guide device (6) which clamps the cylindrical part in a position apart a distance (G) from the outlet where the product stabilizes dimensionally. The guide device (6) has several guide bodies (8 and 9) which are arranged to face each other and rotate around a corresponding axis (7). The guide device turns around a longitudinal axis (L) of the cylindrical part in order to offset the self-generated rotation when drawing out the cylindrical part. As a result, the occurrence of the relative rotational motion between the cylindrical part and the guide device and the damage caused on the surface of the cylindrical part accompanying the same may be obviated entirely.
