PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an escalator enlarged in space between railings. SOLUTION: Railings are installed from the outside of a machine room, and a handrail support part is provided at the side face of the upper end part installed inclining onto the step side, being curved or vertically erected from above the machine room. A handrail going path is provided at the tip part of the support part. In a device for guiding and moving an endlessly connected handrail, a handrail feed roller is disposed outside, and a feed roller driving part is disposed on the step side. The device for guiding and moving the handrail is installed in the inclined state, and a space formed at a machine room part is utilized to laterally enlarge a step board part and a kick-up part of the step.
