PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a gripping apparatus for an insulation displacement terminal for firmly gripping the terminal without the need of fine elastic force adjustment of an elastic member. SOLUTION: A holding arm 15 is turnably mounted to a grip block body 11 through a mounting part 15a turning around a supporting shaft 11a. An opening and closing lever 18 is supported by a supporting member 19 such that its a leading end is disposed at a groove 15c of the holding arm 15 and coupled to a pin 16 mounted at the holding arm 15. If the grip block body 11 is moved toward an extraction position from an extracting initiation position, the holding arm 15 is turned around the supporting shaft 11a against an elastic force of a spring 17 on the basis of the engagement of the pin 16 and a tapered portion 18c and a leading end face 18b of the opening and closing lever 18 such that a holding piece 15b retreats from a fitting hole 14, and a tab 20a of an insulation displacement terminal 20 is entered into the fitting hole 14 from below.
