PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a nevel sterically hindered amine useful as a stabilizer for organic materials, especially for polymers, and mixtures of the same with other stabilizers. SOLUTION: This sterically hindered amine is represented by the formula [X1 is H, a 1-22C alkyl, an oxygen radical Q*, OH, NO, CH2CN, benzyl, allyl, a 1-30C alkoxy, a 5-12C cycloalkyloxy, or a 6-10C aryloxy the aryl group of which may be substituted by a 1-5C alkyl, a halogen, or nitro group; X2 is H, CH2CH2COOX5, CH2CH(CH3)COOX5, or a 1-22C alkyl; X3 and X4 are each H, an optionally (1-4C alkyl)-substituted phenyl group, or a 1-22C alkyl provided at least either X3 or X4 is a branched 4-22C alkyl; and X5 is a 1-22C alkyl].
