The safety valve for an elliptical slow cooker is positioned on its larger diameter and consists of a bend (20) in the inner edge (13A) of the peripheral groove in the lid (10) and a gap (21) at the top of the external edge (13B). This allows the sealing gasket (11) to move from the sealing position where it rests against a lip (4) on the vessel to a position where it rests against the inner edge of the groove to release the pressure in the vessel.
