PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a new diphenylimidazole compound, and to provide a fungicide which can profitably be synthesized, can safely be used in sure effects and is useful for agriculture and horticulture. SOLUTION: A diphenylimidazole compound represented by the general formula [I] A is H, a halogen atom, a 1 to 10C alkyl, a 1 to 10C haloalkyl, a heterocyclic group selected from groups of the formulas [X is a halogen atom, a 1 to 6C alkyl or a 1 to 6C haloalkyl; Y is H or a 1 to 6C alkyl; Z is a halogen atom, a 1 to 6C alkyl, a 1 to 6C haloalkyl or the like; (m) is 0, 1 or 2] or the like; R1 and R2 are each a halogen atom, a 1 to 6C alkyl or the like; R3 and R4 are each H, a 1 to 5C alkylcarbonyl or the like; (k) and (l) are each 0 or an integer of 1 to 5}, and the fungicide for agriculture and horticulture, characterized by containing one or more compounds selected the compound or its salts as active ingredient.
