PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for refining a polymer, which comprises removing efficiently a catalyst inactivated after completion of polymerization. SOLUTION: There are provided a method for refining a metathesis polymer, which comprises subjecting a cycloolefin derivative, that can be metathetically polymerized by means of a metallic alkylidene catalyst, to the metathetic polymerization and then subjecting the polymeric liquid thus formed to an inactivation treatment, and the method for refining a metathesis polymer, which further comprises subjecting the polymeric liquid having undergone the inactivation treatment to an adsorption treatment.
