PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide excellent methacrylic lacquer resin compositions which improve the weatherability to such an extent equal to or more than that of curable coating materials having comparatively good weatherability in spite of being lacquer compositions and, simultaneously, have drying characteristics and balanced various performances (chemical resistance, solvent resistance, water resistance, hardness of coated films and the like) which are required for coating material resins, and coating materials using the methacrylic lacquer resin compositions. SOLUTION: The methacrylic lacquer resin compositions comprise, as the resin component, a resin which can be obtained by copolymerizing (a) 70-99.8 wt.% methyl methacrylate or ethyl methacrylate, (b) 0.1-10 wt.% polymerizable ultraviolet stabilizing monomer represented by the formula, wherein R1 and R2 are each a hydrogen atom or a methyl group), (c) 0.1-10 wt.% carboxyl group-containing polymerizable monomer, and (d) 0-29.8 wt.% other polymerizable monomers [provided that the sum of components (a), (b), (c), and (d) is 100 wt.%] and has no glass transition temperature which can be measured with a differential scanning calorimeter.
