PURPOSE: An electromagnet for high speed solenoid valve is provided to increase useful magnetic flux by increasing the cross sectional area of the end of the inner core, while minimizing volume of the armature. CONSTITUTION: An electromagnet forms a flux circuit by an inner core(1) having a cross sectional area of which is larger than that of the other end(1a), a yoke extended in radial direction from the end with larger cross sectional area, an outer core arranged at the outer periphery of the yoke and an extended core(11) extended inwardly from the outer core. A disc-shaped armature(4) reciprocates in a linear fashion between the other end of the inner core and the inner periphery of the extended core. An internal air gap(G1) is formed between an upper plane(4a) of the armature and the other end of the inner core, in a direction vertical to the movement direction of the armature. An external air gap(G11) is formed between an inclined outer periphery(4b) of the armature and the inner periphery(11a) of the extended core which is inclined to be parallel with the inclined outer periphery of the external air gap. When an exciting coil(5) arranged between the outer periphery of the inner core and the inner periphery of the outer core is excited, a strong attraction force is produced from the internal air gap and the external air gap, thus operating the armature and solenoid valve at a high speed.
