PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method and an apparatus, capable of analyzing gas phase components in the head space of a container, into which a sample is injected, without losing their balance. SOLUTION: In the method for analyzing the head space components and the apparatus used for the method, a coating bar with adsorbent applied is inserted into the head space of the closed container into which the sample is injected, the coating bar with the components in the head space adsorbed is pulled out of the closed container and is inserted into a U-tube with a heating means provided at least on its upper part from its one end, at least the lower part of the U-tube is dipped into a refrigerant and then the U-tube is heated to desorb the components adsorbed to the coating bar, the desorbed components are accumulated in the bottom part of the U-tube, the other end of the U-tube taken out of the refrigerant is connected to the sample injection port of a gas chromatograph, an inert gas is supplied to the U-tube, and the desorbed components are analyzed.
