[Class 39 (i).] A positive-column discharge tube 1 having adjacent ends is provided with outwardly directed pinches 2 lying in one plane. The pinches may be formed simultaneously. Cathodes 3, which are heated by the discharge and are connected to anodes 4 are provided. A cap 5 of asbestos cement is secured to one of the pinches by cement 6 and is fitted with screwed and centre contacts 7, 8. The tube may be provided, as described in Specification 392,796, with a double-walled envelope 12, the space between the walls of which is exhausted. A member 13 serves to secure the envelope 12 to a holder 9 or may be adapted to be screwed into another fitting. Additional contacts are fitted on the cap if the cathodes are to be independently heated. |
