PURPOSE: An apparatus and a method for receiving a signal are provided to transmit asynchronous data without an error to a data processing part by using the minimum number of buffers. CONSTITUTION: A receiving unit(130) has a data receiving portion(131), a control portion(132), a memory portion(133), a synchronous data processing portion(134), and an asynchronous data processing portion(135). The data receiving portion(131) is used for separating synchronous data and asynchronous data received from a transmitting unit(110) through an IEEE 1394 serial bus(120). The control portion(132) outputs a control signal. The memory portion(133) is used for storing the synchronous data and the asynchronous data. The synchronous data processing portion(134) reads the stored synchronous data and performs a data signal processing operation. The asynchronous data processing portion(135) reads the stored asynchronous data and performs the data signal processing operation.
