PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a digital radio unit, which has a 1st operation mode for processing transmission data and a 2nd operation mode for processing the received data and performs switching between these two modes, according its transmission or reception operation. SOLUTION: The transmission voice signals are transmitted after undergoing A/D conversion, voice encoding, error correction encoding and channel encoding processes, and the received signals undergo the channel decoding, error correction decoding and voice decoding processes for obtaining the received voice signals through D/A conversion. A digital radio unit of such a constitution has a digital signal processor, including a means having the 1st operation mode for carrying out the encoding, error correction encoding and channel encoding processes needed in the transmission mode and a means having the 2nd operation mode for carrying out the channel decoding, error correction decoding and voice decoding processes needed in reception mode respectively and then performs switching between the 1st and 2nd operation modes, according to selection of its transmitting or receiving operation.
