PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an organic electroluminescent element which has luminescence with enough brightness for a light source of a liquid crystal projector or a backlight of a liquid crystal display. SOLUTION: A circularly polarized light emitting organic electroluminescent element has a transparent positive electrode, a metal electrode mirror as a negative electrode, an organic layer including a light emitting layer which is put between the positive electrode and the negative electrode, and a cholesteric liquid crystal layer on the light incident side or the light emitting side of the substrate.
