PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a fluorescent lamp to be used for a backlight source for a liquid crystal display device which gives a stable light emission at enough brightness with a rare gas including xenon as a discharge medium. SOLUTION: This florescent lamp has a discharge medium including xenon gas inside a glass tube 11 with a phosphor film 13 on its inner surface and sealing parts 12a, 12b formed at both ends. An inner electrode 15 is arranged at an end inside the glass tube 11, the first feeding lead wire 14 connected with this inner electrode 15 penetrates in airtight state into one of the above sealing parts. An outer electrode 16 made of a linear conductor is wound round in spiral along the tube axis around the outer peripheral of the above glass tube. At the other end of the glass tube 11, a second power feeding lead wire 14b with one edge buried in the above sealing part and the other edge led out of the glass tube 11, and an end of the above outer electrode 16 is electrically connected with the second power feeding lead wire 14b and fixed mechanically.
