PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an electrode having a tapered portion and an arc groove, used for a vacuum circuit breaker, and its production. SOLUTION: The electrode for the vacuum circuit breaker has the arc groove chamfered using a tool trace which makes the rotating axis of a chamfering cutter in parallel to the center axis of the electrode and offsets the rotating axis of the chamfering cutter to the outer periphery side of the electrode corresponding to the inclination of the tapered portion of the electrode. The arc groove can be chamfered by a machine tool having three-axis control for X, Y, Z axes, resulting in the inexpensive electrode having good insulating property during circuit breaking.
