PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for controlling an automatic vending machine capable of selling prescribed merchandise in preference to the other merchandise. SOLUTION: After paying out sales merchandise, a chain 34 is rotated based on the position information and posture information of hooks 38, which is stored in a memory means, to move a hook 38 where the merchandise is hung to the rocking position of a hanging rack 4 (the front surface of the rack), thereby the merchandise is always displayed at the rocking position to facilitate browsing the merchandise and to secure appearance.
