PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a gas burning appliance in which it is surely recognized by an operator that a moving member of a safety valve is kept in a separated position (valve opening position). SOLUTION: A gas rice cooker 50 comprises a rice-cooking pot 52, a gas burner 88 for heating the pot 52, an igniter 62 for ignition of the burner 88, a thermistor 90 for detecting temperature of the pot 52, an automatic shutoff circuit 86 for shutoff the burning flame of the burner 88, a thermocouple 56 generating an electromotive force when detecting combustion heat of the burner 88 is detected, a comparator 58 for comparing an output voltage from the thermocouple 56 with an ignition level voltage or a shutoff level voltage, a microcomputer 64 controlling the operation of the cooker 50, a switching element 82 for switching in accordance with an output of the microcomputer 64, a safety valve 24 which closes when the switching element 82 is switched off, a piezoelectric buzzer 67 for informing the operator that the moving member 34 is kept in a separated position by an electromagnetic actuator 36, etc.
