PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a magnetic tape device which can rapidly detect the pull out of bit synchronization. SOLUTION: This magnetic tape device has a magnetic head 21 which is capable of simultaneously reading the plural tracks of a magnetic tape 1 and a digital PLL circuit 23 for bit synchronization by each of the respective tracks of the reading data of the respective tracks read by the magnetic head 21. The device has a speed fluctuation detecting circuit 26 which detects the tracks pulled out of the bit synchronization by relatively comparing the transfer rates of the reading data with each other between the respective tracks.
