PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method of identifying microorganisms promptly and simply and a kit that is used therein. SOLUTION: A plurality of chromosomal DNAs that originate from known microorganisms, are immobilized on the support faces and have GC contents different from each other are allowed to react with the chromosomal DNAs of the unknown microorganisms in the sample specimen and the resultant hybridization complexes are characteristically detected whereby the unknown microorganisms are identified. This invention further provides a kit for identifying microorganisms in the sample specimens in which the kit comprises the supports to which a plurality of chromosomal DNAs originating from known microorganisms of the GC contents different from each other are immobilized on the same face.
