PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image reader and an image data transfer system that employ an existing interface so as to transfer image data at a low cost and at high-speed. SOLUTION: The image reader provide with a CCD 10 as an image read means that reads an original and receives the image data, with interface control section 15, 16 that transfer the image data received by the CCD 10 to an external device and with interface sections 17, 18, is provided with at least two sets of the interface control sections 15, 16 and the interface sections 17, 18 or more and with a data share section 14 that shares the image data received by the CCD 10 to the two sets of the interface control sections 15, 16 and the interface sections 17, 18 or more according to a prescribed sharing method.
