PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To shorten the time required for continuous printing of a plurality of copies. SOLUTION: The number of copies of print data from a host computer 1 is stored in a number of copy storing section 11, the sheet size is stored in a size storing section 12 and the print data of first copy is stored sequentially in a data buffer section 8. Based on a requested number of copies, a developing section 9 develops the print data into image data of two parts in the main scanning direction such that a recording sheet of A2 size is divided into recording sheets of A4 size, and stores the image data in an image memory 9'. A recording sheet from a sheet feed section 4 is cut, at a sheet cutting section 5, into a specified size in the main and sub-scanning directions based on a requested sheet size. The image data is transferred through a delivery section 10 to a printer engine 6 and a recording sheet of A2 size, on which two parts of A4 size document are formed, is discharged from a discharging section 7. Since print data is transmitted only once from the host computer 1 even in case of two part printing, two pages of two parts of A4 size document can be obtained by carrying a recording sheet of A2 size and thereby print time can be shortened.
