RECTANGULAR STEEL PIPE COLUMN

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a rectangular steel pipe column such that upper and lower rectangular steel pipe column members of different cross-sectional sizes can be bolted together without use of a special joint member. SOLUTION: The upper and lower column members 4 and 5 constructed of rectangular steel pipes are brought together in an end-to-end relation and a joint plate 6 is provided across the pipe walls at the ends of both column members 4 and 5 and is bolted to the pipe wall of one of the column members 4; a filler plate 8 is inserted in a clearance that forms between the joint plate 6 and the other of the column members 5 and the joint plate 6 is bolted to the pipe wall of the other of the pipe members 5 via the filler plate 8.
