PURPOSE: A device for controlling the stop position of a spindle of a grinding machine is provided to accurately control the stop position of a spindle by mechanically braking a cam attached on the spindle. CONSTITUTION: A cylindrical cam(3) having a combining recess and an inclined face is installed on one end of a spindle(2) mounted on a headstock(1). A hydraulic cylinder(6) linearly reciprocating a piston(5) using hydraulic pressure is installed to be on the straight line with the cam. A cam follower combined to the combining recess is vertically formed on the end of the piston. To stop the rotation of the headstock, the piston moves forwardly. The end of the piston enters inside the cam, and the cam follower is fixed in the combining groove. Then, the rotation of the cam is stopped and the spindle and the headstock stop rotating. Since the cam follower is kept in a specific position, the cam is stopped in a consistent stance. Therefore, the stop position of the spindle is maintained.
