PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To make properly receivable even folded or deformed old bills. SOLUTION: This bill verification apparatus 1 has a slot 2 for insertion of a bill A; a feed path 3 extending from the slot 2 to the opening 9 of a storage part 5 and allowing the bill A to pass through; a verification part 4 provided to face the feed path 3 and being able to verify the bill A; a pressing part 6 by which the bill A conveyed to the opening 8 of the storage part 5 is pressed into the storage part 8; and the storage part 5 having a coil spring 13 provided therein for storing the bill A in close contact with the coil spring. The opening 9 of the storage part 5 is formed in the upper surface of the storage part 5 and the portion extending from the slot 2 to the opening 8 of the storage part 5 is provided on a horizontal plane.
