PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image processor capable of deciding the front face and the rear face of an original even when its inputting part reads the rear faces of a plurality of originals in which contents having no relation to the original are printed on the rear faces of the original faces. SOLUTION: An image processing part 3 divides an original image read by the inputting part 2 into a character area and a non-character area, performs image quantity processing suitable to the individual areas, a controlling part 5 detects the characteristics of the layout of the character area, compares the layout features of a plurality of original images, decides that the faces yielding the same comparison results are the faces on which the original exists, and decides that the faces giving different comparison results are the faces on which the original does not exist. As the layout characteristics of the original, the margin width of the original, the font size in the character area and a pitch between lines, the page number of the original and the variation of page numbers are detected to decide the front or rear face of the original set in an automatic original document feeding part 21.
