PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a fixing device capable of accurately detecting the temperature of a rotary member for thermal fixing, eliminating a measurement error when detecting the temperature in a heat ray absorbing layer being a surface layer having small heat capacity, and detecting the temperature of the rotating member for thermal fixing on the surface of which temperature change is large with high speed responsiveness without damaging or deteriorating the heat ray absorbing layer and the light transmissive elastic layer of the rotating member for thermal fixing and without being effected by the soiling of the heat ray absorbing layer, the surface state of oil or the like with which the rotary member for thermal fixing is coated and the heat capacity or the like of an oil coating member. SOLUTION: A cleaning member cleaning the rotating member for thermal fixing and the oil coating member coating the rotary member for thermal fixing with the oil are made to successively abut on the rotating member for thermal fixing in the rotating direction of the rotating member for thermal fixing, and a non-contact type temperature detection means is provided on an upstream side of the oil coating member.
