PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an apparatus for generating an ultrahigh pressure of 10,000 KN or above in a solid without enlarging a guide block and a press. SOLUTION: In the ultrahigh pressure generating apparatus comprising a lower guide block 1, an upper guide block 2, a lower anvil 3 fixed to the middle of the upper surface of the lower guide block 1, an upper anvil 4 fixed to the middle of the lower surface of the upper guide block 2, four sliding blocks 5 which are driven in the middle direction by four inclined surfaces formed in the lower and upper guide blocks 1 and 2, and four side anvils 6 fixed to the front end surfaces of the sliding blocks 5, the Young's modulus of the lower and upper anvils 3 and 4 is made smaller than that of the side anvils 6, and the deformation quantity of the guide blocks 1 and 2 is made equal to the total deformation quantity of the anvils 3, 4, and 6 during pressurization on the front end surface of each anvil.
