The subject invention pertains to the efficient and accurate detection and analysis of materials passing through a membrane. In a specific example the transport of materials through skin is analyzed. The subject method can allow accurate, precise, and specific real time measurements of compounds crossing a membrane. Accordingly, the subject method can save time in product development of pharmaceuticals, cosmetics, and protective clothing products, and can also reduce the need for animal and human testing.
