PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To form a holding device of a material light and small in mechanical rigidity with a scale device, to easily and highly precisely mount the scale device on a main body machine and to carry out measurement in high precision by reducing influence of expansion by a temperature change. SOLUTION: This holding device of the scale device is constituted of a mounting member 15 to be installed on the side of the main body machine 2, a holding member 16 to specify a mounting position of the scale device 4 against the main body machine 2 as well as to hold the scale device 4 and an elastic connecting member 17 to integrate these mounting member 15 and holding member 16. It is attached in a state of positioning it on the main body machine 2 by sandwiching the scale device 4 by the mounting mounting member 15 and the holding member 16 by elastic force of the elastic connecting member 17.
