PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To attain irreversible compression of image data at a high compression rate with less deterioration in sensual image quality. SOLUTION: The image data irreversible compressor is provided with a function of entering a kind of an image, decreases a compression rate for only the part of colors close to a skin color in the case of a portrait and increases the compression rate only for the part of colors close to blue and green in the case of a scenery photo. Since varying the compression rate by each color depending on the intention of a user can reduce an information quantity of unnecessary parts while keeping the image quality of the required part, this image data irreversible compressor can be applied to applications where a large amount of image data from an image capturing device reaching a high level of image quality at a high compression rate is a requirement. The image data irreversible compressor is adopted by almost all kinds of irreversible compression methods and the data compatibility can be maintained because a conventional expansion device can be used without the need for modification.
