PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a garbage treatment device capable of inhibiting any odor from leaking from the device to the outside while controlling the water content, temperature, or the like, of garbage and subjecting the garbage to microbial decomposition treatment. SOLUTION: This device is provided with a closed vessel, a garbage charge port placed at the upper end of the closed vessel, a drain which is placed at the bottom of the charge port and provided with a conveyor screw, and a microbial treatment vessel which consists of a circular-cylindrical drum rotating around a virtual horizontal rotation axis and inside which an extension section of the drain is introduced so as to extend through the cylindrical drum along the rotation axis. The treatment process using the device involves, in the microbial treatment vessel, subjecting garbage together with a buffer material which is used for promoting fermentation treatment and on which microorganisms are deposited, to agitation and decomposition treatment for a specified period of time.
