PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To suppress knocking. SOLUTION: A valve-lift changer 9 is provided for changing an opening area of an intake valve 2. When knocking occurs, the valve-lift changer 9 is used to reduce the operating angle of the intake valve 2 and increase the opening area of the intake valve 2. Otherwise, when the knocking occurs, the valve- lift changer 9 is used to reduce the opening area of the intake valve 2.
