PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image pickup device and an image pickup method with high reliability that can quickly and completely eliminate electric charges left in a photo detection section so as to prevent after-image of an X-ray digital image photographed at first from being left on an X-ray digital image photographed secondly even when X-ray photographing is consecutively conducted thereby acquiring the image with high accuracy. SOLUTION: The image pickup device has a function of realizing a ready state where a CPU 6 operates a photoelectric converter 4 to produce an image pickup enabled state and of realizing a sleep state where the operation of the CPU 6 is stopped. The image pickup device photographs an X-ray digital image in the ready state and then transits to the sleep state for a prescribed time.
