PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a spool valve type hydraulic control valve 1 having good loading efficiency by simplifying a hydraulic fluid passage of the spool valve type hydraulic control valve 1 and reducing the full length of the spool valve type hydraulic control valve 1 to reduce the size. SOLUTION: A first drain port 36 is opened in a spring storing chamber 44 (spring chamber), whereby the first drain port 36 is also served as a second drain port 37 to dispense with the second drain port 37. A recessed part 32a is provided in the side end face of the spring storing chamber 43 of a spool 32 to store and abut a return spring 44, and an abutting position of the return spring 44 and the spool 32 is put aside to the linear solenoid 11. Thus, the full length of the spool valve type hydraulic control valve 1 can be reduced.
