PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a color reproducing method capable of obtaining a color hard copy which has a wide color reproduction range and is also excellent in observation light source dependence and a digital color hard coping machine using this method. SOLUTION: This color reproducing method that changes color material sets to be used in accordance with the saturation of a color signal to be inputted when a digital hard copying machine performs full color reproduction, more specifically, uses a color material set having a wider color reproduction area in the case the saturation of a color signal to be inputted surpasses a predetermined first threshold, uses a color material set excellent in observation light source dependence in the case the saturation of a color signal to be inputted is not higher than a predetermined second threshold, and further mixes the two types of the color material sets in a prescribed ratio and uses the mixed color material set in the case the saturation of a color signal to be inputted ranges between the first threshold and the second threshold.
