PURPOSE: A system and a method for searching for a telephone number in a mobile terminal are provided to obtain a desired telephone number more simply among the telephone numbers stored in the memory of a mobile terminal. CONSTITUTION: In case that a user searches for a telephone number to make a call to a specific person, the user inputs a search condition through an input part(400,410). The input part transfers the inputted condition to a control part. The control part executes an operation based on the user's input, and provides a result to a display part. For example, if the user inputs 'hieut' when the user wants to search for a person who has a name starting with 'hieut', the input part transfers it to the control part(420). The control part searches for the telephone numbers of the persons whose names start with 'hieut' from a memory, and orders the display part to output the result. The display part displays the telephone numbers of the persons having names starting with 'hieut' among the telephone numbers stored in the memory according to the control part's order(430).
