PURPOSE: A lamp assembly using flat lamp is provided to achieve improved uniformity of luminance by lowering a discharge start voltage and widening a plasma discharge area. CONSTITUTION: A lamp assembly comprises a flat lamp including a rear substrate(41), a transparent front substrate(43) which is arranged to be spaced apart from the rear substrate, and has opposed planes which are bonded with each other by a sealing member(42) so as to form a closed discharge space, a plurality of barrier ribs(44) arranged onto the rear substrate so as to section a discharge space, a first electrode(60) and a second electrode(70) arranged at the rear substrate or the front substrate so as to cause a dielectric barrier discharge, and which have openings of predetermined pattern so as to substantially narrow the space formed between two electrodes, and a fluorescent layer(46) coated at the inner surface of the discharge space; a frame equipped with the flat lamp, and which has an open top; and a light diffusion unit spaced apart from the flat lamp and installed in the open portion of the frame.
