PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a communication device which sets a flash signal capable of being detected surely by a switchboard so as to be transmitted in a communication system comprising the existing switchboard. SOLUTION: The flash time is changed by a main control unit 14, and the flash signal is transmitted to the switchboard (S18). When the switchboard datects the flash signal, it transmits a flash-signal detection tone to a facsimile machine 20. When the part 24 datects the flash-signal detaction tone (S113), it can set the flash time capable of being detected by the switchboard as the flash signal (S117). Consequently, even when the line disconnection time capable of being detected as the flash signal is different in each switchboard, the flash time can be updated automatically without a need of the setting operation of a user, and the flash signal which can be detected surely by the switchboard can be set.
